Techniques In Taking Care Of And Fixing Regular Home Furniture

by Dom Wang

Just like any other things you have inside the house, furniture pieces are subject to wear and tear especially those that are used in a day to day basis like chairs, tables, and beds. Nonetheless, it is still possible to get the most out of your furniture with the help of a few basic furniture care tips. When followed regularly, you can be sure that your investment will not come into waste.

Most furniture are made from wood, and that should give you the idea that not every item is as durable as the other. One material you should be careful of is solid wood. Furniture made from solid wood are usually heavier and are harder to fix when damaged. Look for oak wood furniture instead. Oak wood has been trusted by many due to its strong resistance against fungal and insect attack.

When applying any type of finish on your furniture, take the humidity into account. If humidity levels are too high, it will take time for the finish to dry and your furniture will likely have an ugly finish. It is also advisable that you allow the finish to settle and dry completely before using the furniture. 2 to 3 days perhaps would be enough. Avoid placing accessories over your furniture to prevent damages and scratch. As much as possible, protect the surface with a mat before placing the object.

Squeaks you hear from metal or wooden bed frames indicate that the furniture needs some minor fixing. For metal beds, you will need to apply oil to rivets to stop the squeaking sound. Wooden beds that make noises however indicate that some parts have become loose and needs some re-gluing. Meanwhile, wooden drawers need to be lubricated especially when it is starting to get stuck when being opened.

To protect surfaces of wooden tables, it is advisable that you place glass on top. Glass tops guard wooden tables from deep scratches and marks. Don't let moisture get inside the glass as it can cause damage to the wood. If you notice a buildup of moisture between the glass and the table surface, gently lift the glass with the use of rubber bumpers. This will give help release air and get rid of moisture.

Wooden furniture is actually something worth investing your money in. Take care of your furniture set on a regular basis by doing your best to protect them from marks, scratches, and moisture buildups. You'll get the full benefit from each furniture piece if you commit to do so.
