Window Blinds: Installation Techniques

by Sam Decartes

Technology advancement has helped manufacturers of window blinds create various designs suited to many forms of glass windows. However, you have to know what kind of window blind is suited to your window glass type before you buy one.

The ultimate way to install your window blinds properly is to read and understand the manufacturer's instructions. The kind of installation needed will depend on the type of window blinds you purchased. Hence, installation of vertical blinds will be different from that of horizontal blinds. Regardless of the type of blind you choose to apply, prepare the tools needed such as tape measure, screwdriver, drill and drill bits, level, and pencil before installing. Then check the contents of the box if all the necessary parts are present.

There are two ways to install this type of window shading product: the inside mount and the outside mount. When doing an inside mount, it is important to keep the headrail free of obstructions. This is important to ensure maximum performance of your window blinds. You can achieve this by utilizing the level. Mark the spaces below the headrail on both ends. This is where you will put your right and left hand installation brackets.

On the other hand, determining the center of the window casing is necessary when doing an outside mount. Mark the ends of the casing below the headrail. Mark 1/8 of the window casing outside of the limits of the headrail. This is where you will place the installation brackets.

After these preparations, you can then install your brackets. Using the appropriate screws helps you accomplish the task easier and faster. Each mounting bracket is attached using two screws. A middle mounting bracket may sometimes be required for certain blinds. Also, consider the kind of surface they will be attached to.

You can hire the service of a professional installer if there are so many spaces to cover and you are in doubt of your efficiency in doing the job. If you are installing blinds in houses, check if there are extruded guide rails on the windows. These are anodized and coated with white. If there are none, you may ask a professional to install these.
